St. Elias Specialty Hospital is Alaska’s first Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH/LTCH). It is Medicare-certified and Joint Commission accredited and is the only hospital of its kind in Alaska.
St. Elias Specialty Hospital is a joint venture with Providence Health System and BridgeCare Hospitals. There are 60 beds, mostly in private rooms, with state of the art equipment to provide for patients who require extended in-patient acute care.
The terms “Long Term Acute Care Hospital” (LTACH/LTCH) and “Long Term Care Hospital” (LTCH) refer to the same type of hospital. The acronyms are often used interchangeably. Both terms distinguish us from a traditional acute care hospital. LTACH/LTCHs are not intended to be a permanent placement. Our goal is to help the patient reach his/her highest level of wellness possible and move them up the health care continuum. For many LTACH/LTCH patients, this means home.
At St. Elias Specialty Hospital, we provide customized, physician-driven programs for patients requiring longer stays in an acute care environment due to multiple or complex medical conditions.
Most of our patients are admitted directly from a traditional acute care hospital, often from the Intensive Care Unit, a skilled nursing facility or a physician’s office.
Families of patients are welcome to contact us to see if we might be an option for their loved one.
