About St. Elias HospitalSt. Elias is located in the heart of Anchorage Alaska, but we have welcomed patients from all over the United States. St. Elias is the first and only LTCH in the state. The terms "Long Term Acute Care Hospital" (LTACH) and "Long Term Care Hospital" ( LTCH) refer to the same type of hospital. The acronyms are used interchangeably. Both terms distinguish us from a traditional acute care hospital. LTCH's are not intended to be a permanent placement. Our goal is to help the patient reach his/ her highest level of wellness possible and move up the health care continuum. For many LTCH patients, this means home. Our physicians are board certified and we have 24-hour skilled nursing care along with therapists who work as a team on an individualized care plan for each patient. We consider the hospital to be a “bridge” of care from an acute setting to rehabilitation, home or another care facility that requires less intensive medical attention. The hospital is considered a progressive step on the road to wellness for the critically ill or complex patient. A partial listing of diagnoses and conditions we treat include:
